After President Donald Trump was photographed holding a Bible in front of historic St. John's Episcopal Church after his speech on Wednesday, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo tossed a flimsy insult towards Trump that New Yorkers “actually read the Bible.”
“The president held up the Bible the other day in Washington, D.C.,” Cuomo said, “Here in New York we actually read the Bible.”
Cuomo started off his rant with Bible verses that feels “are especially appropriate for today in this time of where we are.”
He read, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the sons of God,” while holding up a new Bible.
“If a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand,” Cuomo went on, citing Mark 3:23.
He also read Psalm 34:14, “Turn away from evil and do good. Search for peace and work to maintain it,” and James 3:18: “The seed whose fruit is righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.”
“You can’t use the military as a political weapon,” Cuomo added, “The president wants to make it a reality TV show of God and country. Call out the military and then I go to church and hold up a Bible.”
First of all, God does not like those who make a mockery of him, which is exactly what Cuomo is doing. Not only is he likely lying about reading the bible, judging by how he acts, but he is slamming President Trump for honoring the Lord.
Not to mention, you cannot simply cherry pick and choose what parts of the bible will apply to you and when they apply. The governor of New York is playing a very dangerous game.
Perhaps if Cuomo started reading the Bible, along with other leaders, then hearts would be softened and real change could begin.
Maybe Cuomo is reading the Bible, and we pray that the hearts of our leaders would be changed by the Word of God, but his actions as governor seem to indicate otherwise.
