Preparing a Thanksgiving feast can sometimes be a nerve-wracking experience, especially when the cost of purchasing all the necessary items takes a significant toll on your budget. The challenge of deciding where to shop for each ingredient can add to the stress.
However, there's good news just before the holiday season: FinanceBuzz, a financial data platform, has conducted a price comparison across major grocery stores in the U.S. to identify where you can find the most and least expensive options for your Thanksgiving shopping.
For those planning to prepare the meal at home, Whole Foods emerged as the priciest option, averaging $84.84 for a meal serving eight people. On the other end of the spectrum, Wegmans offered the most budget-friendly choice, with an average cost of $32.94 for a meal for eight.
Below is a detailed list of stores along with the pricing of items:

Regarding turkey prices, Whole Foods and Hy-Vee ranked as the most expensive, with Hy-Vee turkeys priced at $23.88 on average, followed by Aldi at $15.24. Vegetables were among the costlier items in all stores. Aldi had the most affordable potatoes/gravy and vegetables, while H-E-B, a Texas-based grocer, offered the least expensive prices for other side dishes at an average of $5.95.
FinanceBuzz also evaluated pre-made Thanksgiving meals, revealing that Costco had the highest average cost at $24.88 per person. In contrast, Target offered the most economical option, averaging $6.35 per person.
The American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) recently reported that the national average price for a turkey is now $27.35, slightly down from last year's $28.96 for a 16-pound turkey. Last year, the cost to feed 10 people reached a record $64.05, whereas this year it's slightly lower at $61.17.
The AFBF's price comparison between 2022 and 2023 showed a mix of price changes for Thanksgiving dinner ingredients. For example, the price of pumpkin pie mix increased to $4.44, up 16 cents, marking the largest year-over-year increase.
