A photo of former Arizona Republican gubernatorial candidate, Kari Lake, at Super Bowl LVII, has garnered significant attention on the internet, but for an unexpected reason.
The former news anchor turned Republican firebrand, Kari Lake, was spotted not standing during the playing of the Black national anthem, a move that has been met with controversy, prior to the game on Sunday at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
A photo depicting her not standing during the anthem was shared on social media and rapidly elicited a wave of support from individuals who lauded her choice.
"I’m just here for THE National Anthem," Lake responded to Benny Johnson on Twitter.

The playing of "Lift Every Voice and Sing," commonly referred to as the Black national anthem, prior to the National Anthem at the game, ignited intense debate on social media platforms.
As per the information available on the NAACP website, the song "Lift Every Voice and Sing" was composed by James Weldon Johnson, an NAACP leader, in the year 1900. It started as a poem before being transformed into a hymn.
The song was performed during the 2020 Super Bowl, and the league included it in its Week 1 games of the 2020 season. It was announced prior to the start of the 2021 season that "Lift Every Voice and Sing" would be played before all games.
Critics have expressed their opposition to the playing of the song, objecting to its being given equal standing with the National Anthem. They have criticized it as "segregation" and "racist."
"I'm against a 'black National Anthem' for the same reason I am against a 'white National Anthem,' a 'gay National Anthem,' a 'straight National Anthem,' a 'Jewish National Anthem,' a 'Christian National Anthem,' and so on," Lake said to Fox News Digital in a statement released Monday.
"We are ONE NATION, under God. Francis Scott Key's words ring true for every single American Citizen regardless of their skin color. James Weldon Johnson's 'Lift Your Voice' is a beautiful song, but it is not our National Anthem," Lake continued.
