Leandro De Niro Rodriguez, the grandson of actor Robert De Niro, passed away from an accidental drug overdose, as confirmed by New York's Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
The medical examiner reported that Rodriguez's death was a result of the "toxic effects of fentanyl, bromazolam, alprazolam, 7-aminoclonazepam, ketamine, and cocaine," and deemed the manner of his death an accident.
Sofia Haley Marks, a 20-year-old woman, was arrested in July in relation to Rodriguez's tragic death.
According to allegations, Marks had sold Rodriguez the drugs that led to his death, which occurred on July 2 in his Manhattan apartment.
After her arrest, Marks appeared in a federal court in Manhattan and was charged with three federal narcotics offenses. She consented to remain in custody until she seeks bail at a future time.
The prosecutors involved in the case stated they would fight against any request for her release.
Rodriguez was the son of Robert De Niro's eldest daughter, Drena, who is 51 years old and the daughter of Diahnne Abbott. De Niro adopted Drena following his marriage to Diahnne in 1976, but the couple divorced 12 years later in 1988.
Drena, a successful actress and filmmaker, shared her grief on social media shortly after the loss of her son, expressing, "None of this is right or fair and my heart hurts in a way I never knew possible while still breathing and barely functioning," she wrote. "Leo my darling I love you today like the first day I held you in my arms."

Having collaborated with her son on various projects, including "A Star is Born," the family's grief was palpable.
Robert De Niro himself shared his sorrow, stating, "I’m deeply distressed by the passing of my beloved grandson Leo. We’re greatly appreciative of the condolences from everyone. We ask that we please be given privacy to grieve our loss of Leo," in an official statement.
Drena further conveyed her pain on social media with heartfelt words: "The same man that picked us up from the hospital when you were born drove us to the funeral home where I touched and held you for the last time."
"You were kindness acceptance and love and I can’t believe any of this is real YOU made everything bearable and every burden lighter. You didn’t deserve to die like this but I can only believe that God needed a strong powerful angel in their army."
She continued, "I’m holding you every second of every moment [in] my heart and memories until I’m with you again. My heart is broken forever. Me daddy and your family love you, I love I love you with every beat of my crying heart."
