On Friday, President Donald Trump spoke about the unnecessary murder of Ahmaud Arbery, and how it should have never happened. He said that the video showing the young black man being shot was "very disturbing" and "a sad thing."
“I looked a picture of that young man, he was in a tuxedo,” Trump said. “I would say that that looks like a really good young guy, and it’s a very disturbing situation to me. And I just, my heart goes out to the parents, and the family, and the friends.”
After watching the video myself, I do not see how the situation could be considered anything but an unjustified and unlawful murder. I am truly saddened for the Arbery family.
Breitbart reports:
Arbery was confronted by Gregory McMichael, 64, and his son, Travis, 34. Travis reportedly shot Arbery twice with a shotgun. The pair told police that they thought Arbery was a burglary suspect. When they confronted him, the McMichael’s claim Arbery “violently attacked” the younger of the two.
The case has caught the interest of the nation after a graphic video of the incident made its way online.
The two men, Gregory McMichael, 64, and his 34-year-old son, Travis McMichael, were arrested Thursday on charges of murder and aggravated assault.
“It’s a heartbreaking thing. Very rough stuff,” Trump continued, “Justice getting done is the thing that solves that problem. I’m sure they’re going to come up with exactly what happened, it’s a sad thing.”
The president seemed quite confident that law enforcement and Georgia governor Brian Kemp will ensure justice is served.
