On Wednesday, "The View" co-host Whoopi Goldberg recorded an apology video for her use of the word "gypped" on the show, acknowledging that she should have opted for a different term.
During a discussion among her co-hosts, Whoopi Goldberg mentioned the possible criminal charges against former President Donald Trump in connection to the alleged hush money scandal involving Stormy Daniels.
"You know when you're a certain age you use words that you know from when you're a kid or you remember saying, and that's what I did today and I shouldn't have, I should have thought about it a little longer before I said it. But I didn't and I should have said ‘cheated,’ but I used another word and I'm really, really sorry," Goldberg said in her apology video.

While talking about the Daniels case, Goldberg used the term "gypped," which is a slang word that has been in use for a long time to refer to being cheated or swindled. However, it is considered offensive by some people due to its association with the "Gypsies."
"The people who still believe that he got, you know, gypped somehow, will still believe that he cared enough … about his wife to pay that money from his personal thing. I just don’t understand. If that was the case, then why all the subterfuge? Why is Michael Cohen paying for it?" Goldberg said.
Following Goldberg's apology video, some Twitter users expressed confusion, stating that they were not aware that the word "gypped" was offensive.
Goldberg was previously suspended from "The View" in early 2022 after she made a statement denying that the Holocaust was about race, but she did not issue an apology immediately after the show.
"The Holocaust isn’t about race," Goldberg said during the episode, which aired in January 2022. "It’s about man’s inhumanity to man, that’s what it’s about."
In December, she appeared to reinforce her earlier comments during an interview, but later clarified in a statement that she was actually referring to her initial statements.
