Barry served as a federal judge in New Jersey, stepping down from her role in 2019. Her relationship with the former president was reportedly strong, yet it faced challenges when their niece, Mary L. Trump, published a tell-all book about the family. This tension was heightened by the release of audio recordings in which Barry was heard expressing criticisms of her brother.
In recent years, the former president experienced the loss of other close family members. His first wife, Ivana, passed away in 2022. Similarly, his younger brother, Robert, died in 2020. The former president organized a funeral service for Robert at the White House.
