A sports media outlet recently criticized a young boy for allegedly displaying racial insensitivity during a Chiefs-Raiders game, claiming he wore blackface and a Native American headdress.
However, available photos contradict this accusation, showing the boy with red and black face paint, a common expression of support for the Kansas City Chiefs, not blackface. The media outlet's coverage only presented a partial view of the situation.
Importantly, the boy is of Native American heritage, as confirmed by his mother, Shannon Armenta, in multiple Facebook posts. She highlighted her son's background in response to the media's portrayal.
“This has nothing to do with the NFL,” she wrote, pointed out that the Deadspin article was only written “to create division.”
“He is Native American — just stop already.”
Ultimately, a nine-year-old child, expressing his heritage, attended a Chiefs game wearing team-colored face paint and a headdress. This led to him being unfairly targeted in a harsh article by Deadspin.
