The Democrats have become their own worst enemy! While House Dems are working to send out another round of stimulus checks to Americans, Senate Dems have tossed a wrench in those plans.
The House passed a $3 billion stimulus relief package that is facing opposition from both parties in the Senate, as well as President Donald Trump.
Democrat Sen. Ben Cardin, a member of the Senate Finance Committee, said, “I’d like to take a look at all that aid we provided and get good economic information on the value for that, from the point of view of our economy but more importantly on fairness to people who are really hurt."
Truthfully, that makes sense. Help those who really need it and stop wasting money on those who do not. Although I would not have expected to hear the something from someone on the left.
The Hill reports:
Cardin said the direct payments made more sense in March when Congress wanted to get money out the door as quickly as possible. But now, as states are allowing businesses to reopen around the country, he says lawmakers should look at who will most need relief in the coming months.
“We wanted to get money out quickly. We used the refund checks to do that, we used the PPP program to do that,” he said. “I think the next round we’ve got to be more targeted to those who are really in need. So I hope we can target this a little bit better to those who have been hit hard because of COVID-19.".
There are also Democrats against the stimulus check because they are pushing for ongoing paychecks. Oof.
Finance Committee member Sen. Debbie Stabenow said, “One-time payments are not what people need. What people need is a paycheck. They need ongoing income until this is done. That’s what they need.”
