Study Reveals Shocking Statistics on American Beef Eaters

Prepare to be astonished by this figure: Fresh studies reveal that a slim 12% of the U.S. residents consume half of the entire meat intake daily. A significant portion of this 12% are men in their 50s to mid-60s.

This research was highlighted in “Nutrients”, with its central aim being “educational” initiatives to highlight the environmental and health implications of meat consumption, as pointed out by the scholars. Essentially, the researchers behind this study are urging you to reduce your meat intake to address environmental issues.

Diego Rose, the lead and principal author of this study, who also oversees the nutrition program at Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, stated, “We focused on beef because of its impact on the environment, and because it’s high in saturated fat, which is not good for your health.”

Drawing from data shared by the New York Post, in 2021, the U.S. had a beef consumption of about 30 billion pounds. The authors anticipate potential challenges in persuading this particular 12% to reevaluate their eating habits.

Reflecting on this, Rose remarked, “On one hand, if it’s only 12% accounting for half the beef consumption, you could make some big gains if you get those 12% on board. On the other hand, those 12% may be most resistant to change.”

In an interesting twist, the researchers postulate that men's higher inclination towards red meat is influenced by societal conventions rather than its appealing taste. “This may be because meat, especially red meat, is associated with masculinity, strength and power in Western culture,” they expressed.

It raises the question of whether the research team actually posed this question to typical American males. A clear and simple reason is evident: As noted before, meat is scrumptious.

It's crucial to note that a primary objective of this research is to serve as a reference for endeavors that aim to persuade you to limit your consumption of meat delicacies like ribeyes in the larger battle against global warming.
