Police are often faced with a situation where a quick decision makes the difference between life and death. This situation was a prime example of that.
Body cam footage reveals a situation that somehow ended up not turning into a disaster when a 4-year-old boy pulled out his father's gun and opened fire on the police. Fortunately, the child was disarmed before any injuries occurred.
A YouTube video was shared that shows multiple angles of the incident.
So it turns out the police were contacted when “employees reported that a man brandished a gun in the drive-thru after his order was incorrect.”
ABC4 in Utah reported, “The officer used his hand to sweep the gun away and the gun went off, hitting the upper part of the McDonald’s building. The officer then yelled at the person inside of the car to drop the gun, and after looking inside the car, realized that it was a small child.”
The New York Post reported that the discharge may not have been accidental. “The investigation showed that Johnson then ‘told the child to shoot at the police,’ authorities said. It was not clear exactly when he gave the order and it was not caught in the bodycam clip.”
When asked about the shooting the child said he "wanted his daddy back."
Regardless of who is at fault, the police deserve credit for diffusing this situation. Many times the mainstream media loves to attack police when they make the wrong split-second decision. In this instance, the police did an incredible job and deserve all the credit.
