DoorDash is alerting customers that choosing not to tip may result in extended delivery times.
The service is experimenting with a notification that will appear on a user's phone in the absence of a tip, informing them that orders lacking tips tend to be less appealing to dashers, which could increase the time it takes to receive their order.
"Orders with no tips might take longer to get delivered – are you sure you want to continue?" the alert warns the customer.
DoorDash has informed FOX Business that the alert system is currently in a trial phase, being rolled out to a selection of customers throughout the United States.
DoorDash is meticulously examining the outcomes and reactions from the initial phase of the test, DoorDash representative Jenn Rosenberg conveyed to FOX Business in a statement.
Rosenberg stated, "This reminder screen is something that we’re currently testing to help create the best possible experience for all members of our community."
Rosen pointed out that dashers, as independent contractors, possess the complete autonomy to choose or decline orders depending on their perception of value and reward.
Rosenberg mentioned that orders lacking a tip could negatively impact businesses, dashers, and customers alike.
The absence of a tip often leads to a delay in dashers accepting the order due to its lower appeal, resulting in food remaining at businesses for an extended period and consequently prolonging the customer's waiting time.
